Along with the No. 1 arrival of his album 'Purpose' and record week on the Hot 100, Bieber holds atop the Artist 100.
Justin Bieber is the No. 1 musical act in the U.S. for a second week, remaining atop the Billboard Artist 100 chart (dated Dec. 5).
The Artist 100 measures artist activity across Billboard's most influential charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, Top Album Sales and the Social 50. The Artist 100 blends data measuring album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.
Bieber crowns the Artist 100 for a second frame after leading for the first time last week in his 71st week on the list. (The chart launched in July 2014.) He roars to a 181 percent increase in overall activity, led by the launch of Purpose, which starts at No. 1 on Top Album Sales with 522,000 in traditional album sales, according to Nielsen Music. Album sales mark his greatest Artist 100 points contributor, at 49 percent.
Bieber also sports a 203 percent gain in streaming (with the metric marking 21 percent of his Artist 100 total) and a 42 percent surge in digital song sales (14 percent of his sum). As previously reported, Bieber boasts a record-shattering 17 songs on the Hot 100, passing the mark held by the Beatles and Drake (14 each) for the most titles on the chart in a single week.
As on Top Album Sales, One Direction (6-2) follows Bieber at No. 2 on the Artist 100 (with Bieber reigning on the Artist 100 with a nearly 2-to-1 lead in overall points). The boy band returns to its No. 2 highpoint on the Artist 100, having previously reached the rank on Dec. 6, 2014, when its prior album, Four, began at No. 1 on Top Album Sales. The group returns to the runner-up spot on the Artist 100 as its new set, Made in the A.M., bows at No. 2 on Top Album Sales (402,000 sold). Album sales contribute 66 percent of the 1D's total Artist 100 points.
