Rihanna’s ‘ANTI’ Goes Platinum In About A Day

Rihanna just accomplished something most thought only Adele and Taylor Swift were still capable of.
Her new album, ANTI, has gone platinum (one million) in roughly a day.
However, there’s a mighty big catch.
Almost all of those million albums were download for free, as part of Rihanna’s $25 million sponsorship deal with Samsung. Wednesday, Rih-Rih tweeted a download code for the album to her 55 million followers on Twitter that includes a 60-day free trial for Tidal.
The ploy also (temporarily) ups the number of Tidal’s subscribers by a million.
It’s similar to the deal Samsung had with Jay Z for 2013’s Magna Carta Holy Grail, minus the Tidal tie in.
While the RIAA has already declared ANTI platinum, Billboard and other chart services won’t use the free albums in their counts.
When it comes to purchased albums, Hits Daily Double reports ANTI is trending behind Rihanna’s last few albums, which averaged about 200K in first week sales.
Have you heard ANTI yet? If so, what do you think?
